This summer, several artists and designers are working in the gardens, kitchen and workspaces of Nesse.
Through the research pathways of the residency programme, they engage with the local fabric of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen — from artistic research into traditional zinkstukken (woven brushwood mats), to the development of a community garden, and culinary projects involving local crops and stories.
We warmly invite you to meet some of our current residents during the event Table Settings on 12 July 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00.
During this event, residents Aslı Hatipoğlu, Yoeri Guépin and Marie Ilse Bourlanges will present their work and ongoing research.
Places are limited, so please reserve your spot here.
See you in Nesse!
Aslı Hatipoğlu 01.01.2025 – 01.09.2025
In her practice, she works with dinners, workshops and installations that bring together culinary history, storytelling and agricultural politics. Through fermentation and other ancestral techniques, she questions global production chains and explores restorative ways of relating to food, soil and landscape.
As part of the Food and Industry residency at Nesse, Aslı is delving into agriculture, ecology and labour in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. She is collaborating with farmers and local residents to explore both traditional and contemporary food practices.
Aslı will be in residence until early September 2025.
Marie Ilse Bourlanges 01.06.2025 – 01.03.2026
Marie Ilse Bourlanges is a multidisciplinary artist and performer.
She collects and repurposes natural materials to uncover hidden meanings and new potentials within matter. Her work explores the connection between personal experiences and broader societal and ecological themes, seeking ecofeminist perspectives on care between humans and other species.
During the opening of Nesse, Marie Ilse and Liza Prins presented the performance Flax, baby! Flax in the transport hall of the former Philips factory. Both artists are continuing their individual research paths within the residency programme.
At Nesse, Marie Ilse is focusing on “zinkstukken”—woven mats of brushwood traditionally used to protect riverbanks from erosion. Although their use has declined since the 1960s, they are still found in areas where synthetic materials are banned. She is researching both the traditional willow weaving techniques and contemporary applications.
Yoeri Guépin
01.03.2025 – 01.09.2025
Yoeri Guépin is a visual artist, researcher and gardener.
His work ranges from community projects and video installations to spatial interventions in the landscape, with the garden often serving as the quiet narrator.
Raised on the biodynamic farm Loverendale Ter Linde in Oostkapelle, Yoeri spent his childhood among his parents’ crops. That experience nurtured his love for ecosystems and rural cultural histories.
His projects are long-term and collaborative, exploring care, embodied knowledge, family stories and ecosystems at the margins of society. At Nesse, Yoeri is working on the public garden, which will open in early 2026. This year, he is starting an inventory of the garden together with pupils from De Sprong.
