Van 11:00 - 12:00 uur deelt Marte Mei in de kantine meer over haar onderzoeksproces. Na de lunch is er een hands-on workshop Natuurlijk verven met Zeeuwse meekrap van 13:00 - 17:00 uur gegeven door Marte Mei en Hannie (Vlasklas).

Table Settings is het reflectieprogramma van Nesse, waarin de tafel wordt gebruikt om het format van een artist talk uit te dagen. Deze editie is samengesteld rondom het residentietraject van Marte Mei en omvat een presentatie, een vraaggesprek met Adriënne van der Werf, een lunch en een workshop Verven met Zeeuwse meekrap. Marte Mei is ontwerper en beschouwt materialen als onderdeel van een ecosysteem – een cyclus waarin zij hun oorspronkelijke plek innemen en uiteindelijk weer terugkeren. Met haar methodologie Land-Allyship biedt zij concrete richtlijnen voor locatie-specifieke ontwerp- en architectuurprojecten, waarbij samenwerking met zowel mensen als niet-mensen centraal staat.
Binnen het residentietraject in Nesse onderzoekt Marte Mei hoe hennep PFAS uit de bodem kan onttrekken via een natuurlijk saneringsproces dat fytoremediatie heet. De PFAS wordt opgenomen door de plant, waarna deze wordt geoogst. Marte zoekt naar manieren om deze oogst veilig te verwerken tot bio-based materiaal, om zo een cyclus te creëren die de omgeving natuurlijk schoon maakt.
Tijdens de workshop* leer je hoe je meekrap, een historische verfplant uit Zeeland, kunt gebruiken om henneptextiel op natuurlijke wijze te kleuren. Je ontwerpt en verft je eigen hennep theedoek en werkt gezamenlijk aan een tafelkleed tijdens een gesprek rond de vraag: hoe ervaar jij PFAS-vervuiling?
* Tijdens de workshop worden filmbeelden gemaakt voor een documentaire over het project, die later publiekelijk zal worden vertoond.

This edition centres on Marte Mei’s residency and includes a presentation, a conversation with Adriënne van der Werf, lunch, and a workshop on dyeing with Zeeland madder.

Marte Mei is a designer who regards materials as part of an ecosystem – a cycle in which they take their natural place and eventually return to it. Through her Land-Allyship methodology, she offers practical guidelines for site-specific design and architecture projects, emphasising collaboration between human and non-human agents.
Within her residency at Nesse, Marte Mei explores how hemp can help remove PFAS contamination from the soil through phytoremediation – a natural cleansing process in which plants absorb pollutants from the ground. Once harvested, she investigates safe ways to process the plants into bio-based materials, creating a regenerative cycle that purifies the environment naturally.
During the workshop*, you’ll learn how to use madder, a historic dye plant native to Zeeland, to naturally colour hemp textiles. You’ll design and dye your own hemp tea towel and collaboratively work on a tablecloth while engaging in a group conversation around the question: How do you experience PFAS pollution?
