We nodigen je van harte uit voor de workshop Kinks in Cables: Theatre of the Oppressed* op zaterdag 21 februari (13:00 – 18:00), georganiseerd door Nesse-residenten Alina Lupu en Liza Prins, en in samenwerking met Rosa Stourac McCreery en Laura Dubourjal. De workshop vindt plaats in de studio van Nesse in Terneuzen en wordt in het Engels gegeven.
Tijdens deze workshop richten we ons op de structuren die artistiek werk mogelijk maken én beïnvloeden, zoals financiering, instellingen en werkvoorwaarden. We analyseren hoe zorg, tijd, geld en andere materiële voorwaarden bepalen hoe kunst wordt gemaakt en wie dat onder welke omstandigheden kan doen.
Samen verkennen we op theatrale wijze de werking van subsidies, de verwachtingen van instellingen, professionele normen en ideeën over autonomie en ‘kansen’. Ook besteden we aandacht aan de voortdurende druk om te produceren en waarde te creëren. Door deze situaties op te voeren en kritisch te bevragen, maken we zichtbaar hoe ze vaak ongemerkt onzekerheid en kwetsbaarheid (precariteit) in stand houden; ook wanneer ze worden gepresenteerd als kansen voor meegaande of ‘succesvolle’ kunstwerkers.
*Theatre of the Oppressed is een vorm van theater waarbij het publiek actief meedoet om situaties van onrecht of onderdrukking te onderzoeken en te veranderen. Het idee is dat mensen door samen scènes te spelen en alternatieven uit te proberen, nieuwe oplossingen en meer zelfvertrouwen krijgen om echte problemen in het dagelijks leven aan te pakken.
Vanaf januari 2026 zijn Alina Lupu en Liza Prins in residentie bij Nesse, in samenwerking met Rosa Stourac McCreery en Laura Dubourjal. Samen verkennen zij hoe culturele infrastructuren hedendaagse kunstproductie, arbeid en het dagelijks leven vormgeven. Via theater en zang maken zij spanningen en ongelijkheden zichtbaar.
Aanmelden kan via info@nesse-terneuzen.org. Nesse is niet gemakkelijk te bereiken met het openbaar vervoer. Wil je vanuit België of Nederland komen, laat het ons dan weten vóór vrijdag 20 februari, zodat wij passend vervoer kunnen regelen. Er zal een personenbusje vanaf Gent worden ingezet, en deelnemers kunnen ook worden opgehaald vanaf busstation Westerscheldetunnel in Terneuzen.

We warmly invite you to the workshop Kinks in Cables: Theatre of the Oppressed* on Saturday 21 February (13:00 – 18:00), organised by Nesse residents Alina Lupu and Liza Prins, in collaboration with Rosa Stourac McCreery and Laura Dubourjal.
During this workshop, we will focus on the structures that enable and shape artistic work, such as funding, institutions, and working conditions. We will examine how care, time, money, and other material conditions determine how art is made and who can make it under which circumstances.
Together, we will explore theatrically how subsidies function, institutional expectations, professional norms, and ideas about autonomy and “opportunities.” We will also consider the ongoing pressure to produce and generate value. By enacting and critically reflecting on these situations, we reveal how they often silently reproduce insecurity and precarity; even when presented as opportunities for compliant or “successful” artists.
*Theatre of the Oppressed is a form of theatre in which the audience actively participates to explore and transform situations of injustice or oppression. The idea is that by playing out scenes together and experimenting with alternatives, people gain new solutions and greater confidence to address real-life problems.
From January 2026, Alina Lupu and Liza Prins will be in residence at Nesse, in collaboration with Rosa Stourac McCreery and Laura Dubourjal. Together, they explore how cultural infrastructures shape contemporary art production, labour, and everyday life. Through theatre and song, they make tensions and inequalities visible.

If you are coming from Belgium or the Netherlands, please let us know by Friday 20 February so that we can arrange suitable transport. A shuttle van will be provided from Ghent, and participants can also be picked up from Westerscheldetunnel bus station in Terneuzen.
