Vanaf januari 2026 zijn kunstwerkers Alina Lupu en Liza Prins in residentie bij Nesse, in samenwerking met Rosa Stourac McCreery en Laura Dubourjal. Hun residentie richt zich op de infrastructurele problemen en mogelijkheden die de hedendaagse kunstproductie kenmerken. Via theater en zang onderzoeken zij de antagonismen die ingebed zijn in culturele infrastructuren en hoe deze systemen artistieke arbeid en het dagelijks leven conditioneren.
Het onderzoek ontvouwt zich via verschillende publieke momenten. In januari en februari organiseren Alina en Liza openbare leessessies rond infrastructuurkritiek en culturele productie. Daarna volgen Theatre of the Oppressed-workshops in Amsterdam, Utrecht en Terneuzen, die in maart uitmonden in een collectief ontwikkelde performance. Deze performance verkent vakbondsachtige vormen van stem en verbeelding voorbij kapitalistische productiewijzen.
Gedurende de residentie fungeert de studio als een ruimte voor repetitie, bevraging en experiment: hoe kan men een kink, storing of blokkade worden binnen de infrastructuren die culturele productie vormgeven?

Alina Lupu is een Roemeens-geboren, in Nederland gevestigde post-conceptuele kunstenaar. Haar praktijk onderzoekt protest, solidariteit en zorgstructuren in en tegen het kapitalisme, en maakt gebruik van beelden en performatieve acties om alternatieven voor uitbuitende systemen te verbeelden. Ze studeerde Fine Arts aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie en Photography & Society (MA) aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. Ze is bestuurslid van Platform BK.
Liza Prins is een cultureel werker gevestigd tussen Amsterdam en Newcastle upon Tyne. Hun praktijk richt zich op arbeid, weigering en collectieve performance, met bijzondere aandacht voor zang als politieke en affectieve handeling. Ze studeerden aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie, het School of the Art Institute of Chicago en de Universiteit van Amsterdam, en zijn momenteel PhD-onderzoeker aan Northumbria University.
Het residentietraject Being In the World gaat over het ontstaan van Nesse: het opbouwen van een organisatie die geworteld is in commoning-praktijken, samen met en door een gemeenschap van kunstenaars, ontwerpers en het publiek. Het traject stelt collectieve bevraging en institutionele opbouw centraal en nodigt anderen uit om samen met Nesse te denken, bouwen en handelen.
From January 2026, art workers Alina Lupu and Liza Prins will be in residence at Nesse, in collaboration with Rosa Stourac McCreery and Laura Dubourjal. Their residency foregrounds the infrastructural problems and potentials shaping contemporary art production. Through theatre and song, they explore the antagonisms embedded in cultural infrastructures and how these systems condition artistic labour and everyday life.
The research unfolds through several public moments. In January and February, Alina and Liza will host public reading sessions focused on infrastructural critique and cultural production. These are followed by Theatre of the Oppressed workshops in Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Terneuzen, culminating in March with a collectively developed performance exploring unionised forms of voice and imagination beyond capitalist modes of production.
Throughout the residency, the studio becomes a space for rehearsal, questioning, and experimentation on how to become a kink or blockage within the infrastructures that shape cultural production.

She studied Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Photography & Society (MA) at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.
Liza Prins is a cultural practitioner based between Amsterdam and Newcastle upon Tyne. Their practice focuses on labour, refusal, and collective performance, with particular attention to singing as a political and affective act. They are currently a PhD researcher at Northumbria University.
The residency trajectory Being In the World is about the coming-into-being of Nesse, building an organisation rooted in commoning practices with and by a community of artists, designers, and the public. It foregrounds collective questioning and institution-building, inviting others to think, build, and act alongside Nesse.
